No Hot Water From Your Unvented Cylinder? Here’s What Might Be the Problem

If you are getting no hot water from your unvented cylinder it is not the source of comfort and enjoyment it is meant to be. Modern technology makes it possible to enjoy mains pressure water flow at every tap and showerhead in your home, no matter where it is in relation to the water heater. Upstairs, downstairs, front, back, or the side of the home – it makes no difference.

What happens if your unvented cylinder stops producing and you end up with no hot water, though? What can you do to overcome this problem? Actually, there are quite a few things you can do.

First, assess the flow of water from the taps. Is the water cold, warm, or is it non-existent? If you open the hot tap and no water comes out, the problem may not lie with the cylinder itself.

Instead, it is likely related to a problem with the mains (this will affect your cold water, too). If there is water, but it is cold or warm, is it possible that someone has used all the hot water? This is most often the case after multiple showers and/or running a dishwasher. If your cylinder has been depleted of hot water and has not had time to refill and heat fresh water, the water from the taps will be lukewarm at best.

Pressing the boost button on the cylinder will help you heat up hot water fast. However, if you anticipate this being an ongoing concern, consider setting a different timer with the programmer.

First, make sure to check the power. However, if you are unfamiliar with your home’s power system, or you have any worries about checking the power, contact the professionals at EasyFlow. Chances are good that your unvented cylinder is electric, so check the circuit breaker that controls it.

If the breaker is tripped, reset it, and try again. However, if the circuit breaker will not reset, immediately call for professional assistance. Note that some vented cylinders use two circuit breakers. Another power-related consideration is the RCD.

Another potential culprit (if none of the other things above was the problem) is your thermostat. This is particularly true if you have an older, analogue-style thermostat rather than a digital one. It is possible for an analogue thermostat to be bumped and for the temperature setting to be thrown off. If it is moved lower, then you could have warm water at the taps rather than hot water. Check your thermostat and if it is not accurate, set it correctly.
